Tokyo's consumer inflation down to 0.5% in January

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Ku-area of Tokyo disappointed expectations in January, expanding by 0.5% over the year to stand at 100.3, the Statistics Bureau of Japan's preliminary report released on Friday showed.

The headline figure went down by 0.3 percentage points when compared to the previous month's data when the CPI calculated for the nation's capital marked a 0.8% year-on-year improvement.

The CPI excluding fresh food and energy went down by 0.7% on a yearly basis, while the index excluding only fresh food added 0.2% compared to last year's data.
