The Bank of Japan (BoJ) is not targeting the foreign exchange market directly, the governor of the central lender, Haruhiko Kuroda, said to the press on Monday.

The currency market needs to reflect the economy's fundamentals, the banker noted, adding that the recent "exessive" moves on the market are "undesirable."

The BoJ chief vowed that the central bank will "closely monitor" movements on the foreign exchange market, especially in regard to their effects on prices and the overall economy.
