Asia trades mixed, Chinese stocks plunge

Markets in Asia-Pacific traded mixed in afternoon trading on Thursday as investors continued to focus on the coronavirus pandemic and the safety of vaccines against the disease. A number of countries, including the United States and Italy, paused the use of Johnson and Johnson's jab over blood clot concerns. Meanwhile, media reports claimed Japan is considering canceling the Tokyo Olympics over COVID-19 worries.

The Nikkei 225 added 0.08% at 7:17 am CET. The dollar lost 0.06% against the yen to sell for 108.8705 at 7:18 am CET.

South Korea's Kospi rose 0.58% at 7:19 am CET and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.64% following a better-than-expected jobs report.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Send slid 0.94% at 7:21 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 1.03% at 7:20 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite plunged 1.08% at 7:06 am CET.
