A group of non-profits announced on Friday filing an investigation in France into four multinational clothing brands, in regards to exploiting the labor force of the Uyghur minority workers in China. The accused retail companies are Inditex, Uniqlo, SMCP and footwear manufacturer Skechers.

The non-governmental organizations include a Parisian anti-corruption group Sherpa, a French branch of the Clean Clothes Campaign called the Ethique and the Uyghur Institute of Europe. In an official statement, the alliance claims that clothing brands continue to sell goods made of cotton produced in the Xinjiang region and therefore are complicit in the human rights violations.

Previously it's been reported that Muslim Uyghurs were captivated by Chinese authorities in labor camps, including for cotton production. Earlier, H&M company sided with allegations, after which it was scrutinized by the Chinese public and was forced to close stores.
