Gas supply to face 'greater difficulties' - EU energy chief

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson warned on Monday that gas supply will likely face "greater difficulties" in the upcoming months, noting that Russian gas supply cuts cannot be ruled out, resulting in EU gas storage falling below 75% by November.

Speaking at the conference in France, the European Union's energy chief emphasized that eurozone countries should revise their "contingency plans" to deal with gas supply shocks, stressing the importance of member states resuming to work together to combat the energy crisis, while the Union identifies key industries that could disrupt supply chains in order to reduce gas demand in July.

Simson revealed that the bloc may convene an emergency meeting of energy ministers to discuss the supply in the upcoming period, as commodity prices surge in the midst of Europe's energy crisis.
