Siemens Mobility will partner with Indian Railways on a €3 billion-worth project and will deliver 1,200 electric locomotives to the country, making this the largest locomotive order in Siemens Mobility's history, the company said on Monday.

Deliveries of the Siemens-designed trains with a top speed of 120 kilometers per hour are planned over an eleven-year period, and the deal includes 35 years of complete service maintenance. "This historic order cements a firm commitment from Indian Railways to achieve 100% electrification of rail traffic in India," Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter said in a statement.

"I'm proud that this major order will help India achieve its ambitious goal of creating the world’s largest green rail network, as our locomotives will save more than 800 million tons of CO2 emissions over their lifecycle," the CEO underlined.
