Europe closes lower amid pandemic news

Major stock indexes in Europe ended Tuesday's trading session in the red as the coronavirus pandemic remains in the spotlight. The European Commission stated that countries should inoculate at least 70% of their adult population against COVID-19. In data, the Centre for European Economic Research reported Germany's economic sentiment is on the rise in January despite the coronavirus lockdown.

The FTSE 100 fell 0.11% at the final bell, as Entain plc slid 11.89%. The DAX tumbled 0.24%. Deutsche Bank AG was the worst performer, losing 4.01%. The CAC 40 closed 0.33% lower with Publicis Groupe SA decreasing 4.92%.

The euro grew 0.34% against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, changing hands for $1.21185. The pound was up 0.20% to $1.36144 at the same time.
