US markets open higher after data

Major stock market indexes started higher on Friday after economic data showed the United States trade deficit decreased to $66.6 billion in December while nonfarm payrolls grew by 49,000 in January. Later in the day, President Joe Biden is set to deliver a speech on the state of the US economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.51% at 9:30 am ET, with Johnson & Johnson leading the gains as its stocks traded 1.48% in the green at 9:33 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.21% in the first minute of trade as Activision Blizzard surged 10.58% at 9:35 am ET and the S&P 500 increased by 0.48% at 9:30 am ET.

The euro was 0.40% higher compared to the dollar, going for 1.20136 at 9:34 am ET.
