Apple warns against app downloads without App Store

If Apple Inc. allows its users to download apps on their devices without using its App Store in the process, iOS platform security could be adversely affected, exposing users "to serious security risks," the tech giant claimed in a report it issued on Wednesday.

Downloading apps directly via websites or third-party app stores, a process known as "sideloading," would lead to "a flood of new investment into attacks on the platform," Apple also alleged.

The company also cited a study that found that Android devices "had 15 times more infections from malicious software than iPhone," primarily due to the possibility of downloading Android apps from various sources, in contrast to Apple's policy of allowing app downloads only from its App Store.
