Moderna Inc. announced on Thursday that the Canadian government approved the emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine for use in people older than 12 years of age.

"Health Canada’s approval of our COVID-19 vaccine is an important milestone as it is our first full approval for Spikevax. I would like to thank Health Canada for their hard work throughout the process," Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel commented on the decision.

The approval of Moderna's vaccine named SPIKEVAX comes following results from the Phase 3 study which estimated the shot's efficacy at 93% up to six months following the inoculation. Canada greenlighted the vaccine's use in adults at the end of last year.
