European shares open higher amid earnings

Major stock markets in Europe started the last trading session of the week in the green with the focus on today's batch of corporate earnings and economic data. In politics, European Union members have reportedly urged leaders in Brussels to prepare for a potential trade war with the United Kingdom.

The FTSE 100 began 0.28% higher as Whitbread plc grew 1.63%. The DAX increased 0.14% at the opening bell. Deutsche Bank AG was the best performer, rising 1.39%. The CAC 40 gained 0.40% with Publicis Groupe SA climbing 1.47%.

The euro and the pound were up 0.15% and 0.20% against the greenback at 8:59 am CET, changing hands for 1.16142 and 1.36994 dollars respectively.
