Apple plans iPhone, AirPods production cuts - report

American tech giant Apple Inc. has reduced the planned production of its iPhone SEs in the second quarter of 2022 by around 20% due to the Ukraine crisis, according to a report published by Nikkei on Monday.

Four sources revealed to the news outlet that Apple told its suppliers it would have to lower its production by up to three million iPhones in the second trimester due to weaker demand, while also shrinking the output of AirPods earphones by over 10 million units through the end of the year.

"The war has affected spending at the European markets... It is understandable [consumers will] save the money for food and heating," the sources explained, citing chip shortages as the key reason behind the latest decision.
