Europe closes mostly lower after Transnistria attacks

Major stock markets in Europe closed mostly lower on Tuesday after a series of terrorist attacks in Transnistria indicated the ongoing conflict on the Old Continent could spread outside Ukraine. Local authorities in Moldova's region stated Ukraine might possibly have orchestrated the incidents, while Kiev blamed Russia for trying to destabilize the zone. Also, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev estimated Kiev and the Western countries' approach to the crisis will lead to the partition of Ukraine.

The DAX closed 1.13% or 156 points lower as Hellofresh SE sank by 8.42%. The CAC 40 declined by 0.40%, with Alstom SA plunging by 6.31%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 rose by 0.09% as Glencore PLC increased by 3.19%.

The euro lost 0.49% to the dollar at 5:28 pm CET to sell for $1.06600. At the same time, the pound sterling, having previously hit a 21-month low against the greenback, decreased by 0.90% to the US currency to change hands for $1.26258.
