The world's first 100% hydrogen-powered fleet of trains supplied by French industrial giant Alstom SA started operating in Germany on Wednesday, supporting the country's decarbonization plans followed by the energy crisis across the continent.

As many as 14 regional trains emitting only steam and condensed water used on the world premiere 100% hydrogen train route began operating between the northern cities of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde and Buxtehude for regional operator LNVG.

"Whatever the time of day, passengers will travel on this route thanks to hydrogen," Alstom project manager Stefan Schrank told AFP at the inauguration event.
