Jimmy Lai's trial postponed to December 13

Hong Kong's high court adjourned Apple Daily founder Jimmy Lai's case on Thursday to December 13 after Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee asked Beijing if foreign lawyers can represent defendants in national security cases.

Earlier, British barrister Timothy Owen joined Lai's legal team to lead the case but his working visa was withheld and not extended in light of recent events. Lai's team didn't comment on the visa decision but said that the reason was "very obvious."

Entrepreneur Lai has been an active critic of Beijing and a vocal supporter of the Hong Kong Democratic Party. He was arrested in 2020 over his involvement in organizing a banned demonstration.
