British multinational oil and gas company BP Plc and Danish multinational power company Orsted A/S signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on Tuesday to develop a project for industrial production of green hydrogen made by the electrolysis of water using renewable power while producing zero emissions. Two companies plan to build an initial 50 megawatt (MW) electrolyzer and the infrastructure at BP’s Lingen Refinery in northwest Germany that will be powered by renewable energy generated by an Orsted offshore wind farm in the North Sea while the produced hydrogen will be used in the refinery. BP’s executive vice president, gas & low carbon energy Dev Sanyal stated: "Bringing together Ørsted and bp, Lingen Green Hydrogen offers the opportunity both to accelerate significant emissions reduction in our refinery and build experience of large-scale green hydrogen production and deployment." |
