Chinese authorities summon H&M over Xinjiang cotton stance

The Shanghai office of China's Cyberspace Administration internet regulator announced on Friday that clothing brand Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) was summoned by Chinese authorities over comments against using cotton from the Xinjiang region.

H&M's website contained maps of China with markings of regions, where human rights have been violated and other issues are present. Chinese authorities posted a message on WeChat, saying the company should study local laws and "bolster its awareness of the national territory, and really ensure the standardized use of the Chinese map".

H&M has been scrutinized by the Chinese propaganda over siding with allegations of violence against Uyghur minorities. Beijing organizations have been using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to criticize Western companies, including H&M.
