European stocks fall amid Delta variant concerns

Shares on the major European stock market indices extended losses on Friday, after having started the week's final session slightly below the flatline.

The traders struggled to brush off concerns prompted by the spread of the COVID-19 Delta strain, as data suggested that almost all of the recent infections in the United Kingdom were caused by the variant first registered in India.

The DAX dropped 0.92% or 144 points at 1:25 pm CET, while the CAC 40 lost 0.54% at the same time. Meanwhile, in London, the FTSE 100 dived 1.14%. The euro remained flat against the dollar, selling for 1.19104 at 1:27 pm CET, while the pound concurrently decreased 0.19% compared to the greenback, changing hands at 1.38944.
