WH works to have LA port open 24/7

The White House stated on Wednesday that it is working on ensuring that the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are operational 24/7.

The move comes in the ongoing efforts to reduce the backlog of cargo ships in the Pacific, as the two ports represent the main point of entry for 40% of containers coming to the United States. Moreover, the White House hopes this will help to ease some of the supply bottlenecks that were created in the wake of the pandemic.

US President Joe Biden also plans to meet with union and business leaders to best set a path forward on resolving the supply issues. The companies involved in the initiative are Walmart, UPS, FedEx, Target, Home Depot, and Samsung.
