United States President Joe Biden's administration unveiled on Wednesday its plan to distribute vaccines against COVID-19 for children between the ages of five and 11 "quickly" if their use is approved.

"A major component of the administration's operational planning is working closely with state and local leaders to ensure they are prepared to distribute and administer vaccines," the White House said. It added it "will be providing resources to support them as critical partners in the outreach and public education campaign."

Earlier this month, Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE asked for the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of their treatment for children of the aforementioned age.
