Ride-hailing service Uber announced on Wednesday the extension of its exclusive partnership with the car rental company Hertz, through which by 2023 cab drivers will have access to 50,000 electric vehicles from Tesla. The rental program will start on November 1 in limited locations but will expand across the United States in the following weeks.

"This is the largest expansion of electric vehicles (EVs) on a mobility platform in North America and one of the largest globally, marking another step towards Uber's zero-emissions goal," Uber's official statement said.

The announcement comes two days after Hertz revealed its plans to invest in buying 100,000 vehicles from Tesla by the end of 2022, as well as install EV charging infrastructure across the company's global operations.
