US turns to losses premarket amid Omicron concerns

Major stock market indexes in the United States moved to the negative territory on Friday, as the investors monitored the unfolding news regarding the coronavirus' Omicron variant.

While a spokesperson for the World Health Organization pointed out the health authorities will need more time to assess the nature of the threat that the new strain poses, BioNTech SE CEO hinted that a new vaccine might be necessary to curb the spread of the mutated virus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 0.27%, or 95 points, at 5:52 am ET, the Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.41% at the same time. The S&P 500 concurrently lost 0.36%. The euro advanced 0.09% compared to the dollar, selling for 1.13080 at 5:53 am ET.
