Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provisionally approved the use of Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE's vaccine against COVID-19 in children aged between 5 and 11.

The country's Health Minister Greg Hunt said the agency has "made a careful, thorough assessment, determined that it is safe and effective and that it is in the interests of children and Australians for children 5 to 11 to be vaccinated."

Hut previously said Australia is planning to start vaccinating children from the aforementioned age group in January 2022.
