US mostly lower at open, Fed in spotlight

Major stock indexes in the United States opened the Thursday session trading mostly lower, as investors digested the latest Federal Reserve decision regarding interest rates, as well as Fed Chair Jerome Powell's remarks.

On the data front, the number of initial jobless claims in the country rose by 5,000 to 213,000. Meanwhile, both Costco and FedEx are scheduled to release their quarterly earnings reports later in the day.

The Dow Jones was flat at the opening bell. Not long after, however, the index entered the red territory, falling 0.43% or 132 points at 9:45 am CET. The S&P 500 decreased 0.19% at 9:30 am ET, with FactSet Research Systems tumbling 3.81% a minute later. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.53%, as Align Technology lost 1.38% at 9:31 am CET. The euro was 0.22% up against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 0.98595.
