Gazprom could halt gas to Moldova for payment violations

Tuesday, 04. October 2022 15:29

Russian energy giant Gazprom stated on Tuesday that it could halt gas supply to Moldova if the country fails to pay for previous volumes of gas delivered by October 20 this year, which could lead to the termination of the contract "at any time" due to a gross violation of the terms.

According to Gazprom, Moldovagaz JSC requested a reduction in contractual requirements for supply volume, breaking the agreement's conditions regarding the due date for payment of the supplied gas.

The Russian energy giant also stressed in a statement it could provide Moldova with 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day beginning in October 2022, after NJSC Naftogaz banned the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine, citing Gazprom failed to pay for the gas transit fees. However, the Russian energy giant earlier rejected to pay for services not provided by Ukraine.
