Argentina's VP sentenced to six years in prison

Argentinian Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (pictured) was found guilty of fraud in a corruption case and given a lifetime ban from holding public office in addition to a six-year prison sentence, according to the Associated Press. The official was accused of embezzling $1 billion through public works initiatives during her tenure as president of the country.

Kirchner maintained her innocence during the trial and stated she will appeal the conviction. As per the report, she won't be subject to a prison term or a restriction on holding public office until all possible avenues of appeal have been explored.
