EU seeks 2 WTO panels on China trade issues

Wednesday, 07. December 2022 07:37

The European Union demanded on Wednesday that two panels regarding "trade disputes with China" be held at the World Trade Organization.

One of the panels is related to "the legality of China restricting EU holders of high-tech patents from accessing EU courts to effectively protect and enforce their rights," the European Commission (EC) wrote on its website. The other concerns the legitimacy of Beijing's bans put on "Lithuanian exports and EU exports containing Lithuanian content since December 2021," the official body noted.

The EC highlighted that these bans "are highly damaging" to the bloc's businesses, and are creating issues for the "EU internal market," as they affect "intra-EU trade and intra-EU supply chains."
