European stock exchanges closed Monday's trading session mixed, after struggling for direction in the afternoon trade, following previously recorded losses at the opening bell.

Earlier today, the European Commission unveiled a framework that will secure the "free movement" of goods and services between the Commission and member states. Meanwhile, the market participants awaited interest rate decisions from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England, which will determine future monetary policy in the face of surging inflation.

Frankfurt's DAX rose by 0.63% with Porsche Automobil Holding SE jumping by 3.53%. The CAC 40 was down by 0.26%, as Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield SE pulled the index down by 3.02. London's FTSE 100 remained closed today in the wake of the United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

The euro was down by 0.09% against the dollar, going to $1.0065 at 5:33 pm CET. The pound sterling lost 0.17% versus the greenback, to change hands to $1.14050 a minute later.
