Porsche AG opened a production plant in Chile on Tuesday that will produce synthetic fuels (eFuels) with Chilean company Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF). The plant in Punta Arenas is in its pilot stage of production and aims to make about 130,000 liters per year initially for cars at Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and at Porsche Experience Centers.

At the opening, Porsche Executive Board members, Barbara Frenkel and Michael Steiner (both pictured) fueled a 911 model with eFuel made at the site. Frenkel commented that eFuel usage reduces CO2 emissions and should be used worldwide. "Porsche is playing a leading role in this development," she said.

Porshe invested $75 million in HIF in April, with a total investment worth over $100 million so far. After the pilot phase, the aim is to produce up to 55 million liters per year in the next years.
