US jobless claims up 28,000 to 222,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending November 27 increased by 28,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to reach 222,000, the US Department of Labor reported on Wednesday. The four-week moving average stood at 238,750, down by 12,250 compared to the prior week's revised average and landing at the lowest point since March 14, 2020.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending November 20 was 1.4%, 0.1 percentage point down in comparison to unrevised numbers from the prior week. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week was 1,956,000, down by 107,000 from the previous week's revised figure and the smallest number seen since March 14 last year. The four-week moving average was the lowest since March 21, 2020, and stood at 2,084,250, falling by 36,250 compared to the previous week's revised average.
