Nestle commits to sustainable packaging

Swiss food giant Nestle S.A. said on Monday it has grown the share of recyclable or reusable plastics meant for the packaging of its products to 87%, therefore progressing toward its 100% goal by 2025.

In its media briefing, the company that was often cited as one of the world’s greatest plastic polluters pledged to decrease its use of new plastics by a third by the year 2025 and spend up to 2 billion Swiss francs ($2.19 billion) to use recycled plastics.

Head of operations Magdi Batato stated that "packaging plays an essential role in preserving the integrity and safety of our food. At the same time, plastic pollution continues to be a major issue around the world told reporters in the virtual briefing. We have made bold commitments and we will."
