US opens higher amid data

Major stock markets in the United States opened in the green on Thursday after more inflation and jobs-related data was published. The producer price index (PPI) increased 0.6% in April compared to the previous month, while it rose 6.2% year-over-year marking the largest jump since November 2010 when 12-month data calculations began. Meanwhile, data for the week ending on May 8 showed that the number of initial jobless claims in the US fell by 34,000 to land at 473,000, the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Dow Jones opened 0.12% higher at 9:30 am ET as Apple rose 1.54%, while the S&P 500 jumped 0.42% at the same time with Applied Materials growing by 4.28%. The Nasdaq 100 was 1.03% in the green with Applied Materials leading the gains at 3.83% up.

The euro traded 0.08% higher compared to the dollar to go for 1.20816 at 9:30 am ET.
