US opens higher ahead of Fed's decision

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States started the session higher on Wednesday, as the investors awaited the Federal Reserve's decision on the monetary policy.

On the earnings front, technology giants Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet all reported better-than-anticipated quarterly results, while planemaker Boeing also beat estimates, along with pharmaceutical firms Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline. Facebook is set to unveil its earnings report for the second quarter after the close.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.11% as the session started as Boeing surged 4.96%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.35% at the open with NetEase soaring 8.5%. At the same time, the S&P 500 moved up by 0.18%. Activision Blizzard was the benchmark's top performer, as it jumped 3.03% at 9:32 am ET. Shortly after the session started, all three indices turned to losses.

The euro slid 0.19% versus the dollar, selling for 1.17943 at 9:28 am ET.
