United States President Joe Biden will meet his outgoing Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin on June 28 in Washington to "consult about the many challenges and opportunities facing the region," the White House confirmed on Saturday.

"President Rivlin's visit will highlight the enduring partnership between the US and Israel and the deep ties between our governments and our people," the White House states. "As President Rivlin approaches the end of his term, this visit will honor the dedication he has shown to strengthening the friendship between the two countries over the course of many years."

Biden was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Isaac Herzog on his election as the new president of Israel, expressing his confidence that "under his presidency, the partnership between Israel and the US will continue to grow and deepen."
