NatWest Group plc announced on Friday that its total income for the second quarter of the year reached £2.66 billion, falling 0.59% when compared to the same period last year.

For the same period, the bank's basic earnings per share (EPS) jumped 229% from last year's loss per share of 8.2p to 10.6p. At the same time, NatWest's profit surged 252% climbing to £1.36 billion.

Alison Rose, Chief Executive Officer of the group, commented: "Defaults remain low and, given the improved outlook, we have released a further £0.6 billion of impairment provisions in the quarter. While we see the potential for a more rapid recovery, we will continue to take an appropriate and conservative approach as the government schemes wind down and the economy reopens."
