US opens higher following GDP data

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Thursday, as investors digested the latest estimate on the growth of the economy in the second quarter of the year, which fell way below analysts' expectations. Meanwhile, initial jobless claims in the US were down for the week ending July 24. Earnings season continued with Merck, Comcast, and Mastercard reporting yearly increases.

The Dow Jones opened 0.51% in the green, with Caterpillar increasing 1.21%. The Nasdaq 100 stood flat at the opening bell. The S&P 500 started the session 0.29% higher, as Cognizant Technology Solutions Group rose 6.02%.

The euro gained 0.30% against the dollar trading for $1.18796 at 9:31 am ET.
